For steel, we strongly prefer an anodic system with this product. This method is preferable for ferrous materials, as these materials tend to fare better in basic solutions. This formula is NOT inhibited, so it is only used on steel and copper. It would destroy soft metals (aluminium).
It is not formulated to etch ferrous metals, but the combination of caustic, energy, and heat on ferrous metals could leave a light surface profile on the part(s).
